On 2 October, Ambassador Ren Hongyan was invited to attend the Mayaro/Rio Claro Regional Corporation’s 80th Anniversary Opening Ceremony. Taking this opportunity, the Embassy also donated some medical equipment and presented the Chinese Ambassador Scholarships to five students from the Mayaro/Rio Claro region. Mr. Raymond Cozier, Chairman of Mayaro/Rio Claro Regional Corporation, Mrs. Malika Lyons-Best, Chief Executive Officer of Mayaro/Rio Claro Regional Corporation, local councillors and other guests attended the event.

Ambassador Ren congratulated the Mayaro/Rio Claro Regional Corporation on its 80th anniversary and noted that friendship between nations is rooted in the bonds between their peoples. Local-level engagements and people-to-people friendship are important pillars of the bilateral relations between China and Trinidad and Tobago. The Chinese Embassy stands ready to serve as a bridge, promoting local-level exchanges and cooperation between the two countries, enriching the comprehensive partnership between China and Trinidad and Tobago, and bringing tangible benefits to the peoples of both nations. 

Mr. Cozier expressed his gratitude to the Embassy for its generous provision of medical supplies and scholarships in support of the development of local health and education, and looked forward to further strengthening cooperation with China across all fields.
