On 29 July, the Chinese Embassy in Trinidad and Tobago held the 2026 Chinese Ambassador Scholarship Award Ceremony in Couva/Tabaquite/Talparo Region. H.E. Ambassador Ren Hongyan, the Hon. Khadijah Ameen, Minister of Rural Development and Local Government, and Mr. Ryan Rampersad, Chairman of the Couva/Tabaquite/Talparo Regional Corporation attended the ceremony and delivered remarks.
Ambassador Ren congratulated the scholarship recipients and noted that both China and T&T attach great importance to education. He said that the Chinese Ambassador Scholarship not only recognizes students for their diligence and pursuit of excellence, but also embodies the shared aspiration of strengthening the friendship between China and T&T. Noting that this year marks the 220th anniversary of the arrival of the Chinese community in T&T, Ambassador Ren encouraged the awardees to learn more about China, gain a deeper understanding of the country, and become ambassadors of China–T&T friendship, contributing their youthful energy to the common development of the two nations. The Hon. Khadijah Ameen and Mr. Ryan Rampersad expressed their appreciation to the Chinese Embassy for its long-standing support for local education. They highly commended the Chinese Ambassador Scholarship for inspiring young people to pursue academic excellence and for making an important contribution to deepening the friendship between the two countries. The Chinese Embassy has presented the Chinese Ambassador Scholarship for five consecutive years. This year, 18 students from the Couva/Tabaquite/Talparo Regional Corporation received the scholarship.
