On February 28, H.E. Ren Hongyan attended the opening ceremony of the 4th Chinese Spring Festival Temple Fair.

The event was attended by Speaker of the House Jagdeo Singh, Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister Wilfred Nicolas Morris, Minister of Housing David Lee, Secretary-General of the Association of Caribbean States Noemi Espinoza Madrid, members of the diplomatic corps and representatives of international organizations in Trinidad and Tobago, as well as nearly 500 members of the local Chinese community and residents.

Ambassador Ren extended New Year greetings to the guests and the Chinese compatriots in Trinidad and Tobago, and congratulated the organizers on the successful launch of the Temple Fair. He noted that over the past four years, the Temple Fair has witnessed the robust growth of China–Trinidad and Tobago relations and has become an annual cultural highlight in the country.

Ambassador Ren stated that this year marks the 220th anniversary of the arrival of Chinese immigrants in Trinidad and Tobago. China stands ready to take this opportunity to work with Trinidad and Tobago to advance the Global Civilization Initiative and inject new impetus into bilateral cultural exchanges and practical cooperation, so as to deliver greater benefits to the two peoples.

In their remarks, Minister Morris and Secretary-General Espinoza conveyed their best wishes to the Chinese people, underscored the importance they attach to developing relations with China, and expressed their willingness to work with the Chinese side to elevate bilateral relations and cooperation to a higher level.

The organizers expect total attendance at this year’s Temple Fair to exceed 6,000 visitors.
