The friendly exchanges between China and Trinidad and Tobago have a long history. As early as 1806, when the first batch of Chinese immigrants set foot on this beautiful twin - island nation, the seed of friendship was sowed. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1974, under the strategic guidance of the leaders of the two countries, the tree of friendship between China and Trinidad and Tobago has flourished and borne abundant fruits, with political mutual trust continuously deepened, practical cooperation yielding fruitful results, and people - to - people exchanges increasingly expanded. In 2013, when Chinese President Xi Jinping paid a successful state visit to Trinidad and Tobago, the two countries established a comprehensive and cooperative partnership of mutual respect, equality, mutual benefit and common development, opening a new stage in the development of bilateral relations.
