Chinese Embassy in T&T Co-hosts the 2026 International Chinese Language Day Celebration

On April 20, Chinese Embassy in Trinidad and Tobago in collaboration with the Confucius Institute and the Centre for Language Learning at the UWI, St. Augustine co-hosted the celebration of the 2026 International Chinese Language Day themed “Chinese:Sparking the Colourful Dreams”. The Award Ceremony of the Chinese Calligraphy Competition highlighted the whole event. 

Mr.Yang Han, Deputy Head of Mission and Political Counsellor,Ms.Kiva Clarke, Deputy Permanent Secretary(Ag.)of the Ministry of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs, Local and Chinese Directors of the Confucius Institute Dr.Nicole Roberts and Dr. Chen Xiufeng along with the cohort of Chinese language learners and enthusiasts attended the gathering and filled the auditorium exceeding one hundred seats.     

Mr. Yang commended the achievements of the championing participants and said that the Chinese Language carried the genes of wisdom and heritage of the splendid Chinese civilization, while playing an indispensable role in shaping the cross-cultural mutual appreciations. He inspired the TT friends from all walks of life to find the charm of the Chinese language and explore the depth and vitality of the country of China. Via the facilitation of language-based resources, Yang hoped more information and knowledge sharing on China’s ongoing modernization endeavour would be accessible and Chinese language learners became the cultural ambassadors advancing the traditional friendship and cooperation between China and Trinidad and Tobago.     

Ms. Clarke extended congratulations to the success of the event and recognized the Chinese diaspora’s contribution to the social and cultural fabric of Trinidad and Tobago. Ms. Clarke encouragingly projected the trending popularity of the Chinese language learning and growing interest on the Chinese culture locally, underscoring the further strengthening of the steady relationship and friendship between Trinidad and Tobago and China.  

After the ceremony, participants enjoyed an extraordinary display of those submitted pieces at the“Year of the Horse, Ode to the Horse” Chinese Calligraphy Competition.
