On March 6th, Ambassador Ren Hongyan met with Mr. Necephor Mghendi, Head of Delegation for the Dutch- and English-speaking Caribbean of the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), at the latter’s request. Mrs. Saara Ali- Browne, Coordinator for the Humanitarian Diplomacy and Strategic Partnerships, was also present.

Ambassador Ren highly commended the IFRC for its humanitarian relief efforts in the Caribbean region. He introduced China’s active participation in international humanitarian cooperation and the constructive role played by the Chinese government in promoting the building of a community with a shared future for mankind. He noted that the Embassy stands ready to further strengthen coordination with the IFRC Delegation Office and explore practical cooperation in areas such as public health, disaster prevention and mitigation, climate resilience, and marine ecological protection, in order to contribute to regional development and the well-being of the people. Mr. Mghendi expressed appreciation and gratitude for China’s long-standing and valuable development assistance to Trinidad and Tobago and other countries in the region. He expressed the hope to enhance exchanges with the Chinese side at various levels and across different fields, jointly address risks and challenges, and inject new momentum into humanitarian efforts in the region.
