On March 7, Counsellor Yang Han, Charge d’Affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Trinidad and Tobago, attended the Donation Ceremony of Jiangsu Province to Trinidad and Tobago in support of “Steelpan Tuner Apprenticeship Programme”, and accompanied Mr. Fang Wei, Vice Governor of Jiangsu Province to meet with Minister of Trade and Industry Paula Gopee-Scoon. The delegation has had a fruitful meeting with the Minister. Both sides reached a consensus on strengthening cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative, expressing the willingness to further tap the potentials of collaboration in areas of trade, investment and people-to-people exchange. Chargé d'Affaires Yang said that the ongoing Two Sessions of the National People's Congress of China have stressed that China will unswervingly pursue opening-up, and expand the converging interests with other countries to promote common development. China is willing to work with Trinidad and Tobago to strengthen high-quality Belt and Road cooperation and elevate bilateral relations to a new height.
After the meeting, the Chinese delegation donated TT$300,000 to Metal Industries Company Institute of Technology in support of “Steelpan Tuner Apprenticeship Programme”. The donation is a perfect reflection of the goodwill and friendship of the Chinese people. It is hoped that this can help build a new bridge connecting the two countries through the steelpan, a shining name card and a national symbol of T&T.
Mr. Si Yong, Director of the Department of Commerce of Jiangsu Province, Mr. Randall Karim, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Trade and Industry, Professor Emeritus Clément Imbert, Chairman of MIC-IT, attended the meeting.
