On August 8, 2024, Ambassador Fang Qiu engaged in a productive dialogue with Senator Dr. Muhammad Yunus Ibrahim, Vice-President of the Senate, focusing on the enhancement of bilateral relations. The meeting was also attended by Senators Hislop, Lee-Sing, and Bethelmy.
Ambassador Fang highlighted the significant progress made in the relationship between China and Trinidad and Tobago over the past fifty years since the establishment of diplomatic ties. He noted that the partnership has flourished, yielding substantial results through practical collaboration across various sectors, further solidifying the enduring friendship between the two nations. The Ambassador pointed out that the recent third Plenary Session of the 20th CPC Central Committee has laid out comprehensive plans for advancing reforms and promoting high-level openness. He reiterated China's commitment to sharing its development opportunities with countries worldwide, including Trinidad and Tobago. Ambassador Fang also expressed a strong desire to enhance legislative cooperation, aiming to broaden friendly exchanges and collaborative efforts in areas of mutual interest, thereby fostering a closer community with a shared future. Senate Vice-President Ibrahim praised China's impressive achievements in both economic and social spheres. He conveyed the unwavering support from all sectors of Trinidad and Tobago for the friendship with China. Furthermore, Ibrahim expressed the Trinidad and Tobago’s eagerness to leverage the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations as a pivotal moment to deepen friendly exchanges and cooperation across diverse fields, ultimately advancing the development of bilateral ties.
