On August 12, 2022, Chargé d'Affaires Yang Han of the Embassy of China met with Ms. Reita Toussaint, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs of Trinidad and Tobago.

Chargé d'Affaires Yang Han reiterated China’s solemn position on U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit to China’s Taiwan region and introduced the newly published white paper titled “The Taiwan Question and China’s Reunification in the New Era”. Yang stressed that it is crystal clear that Taiwan is part of China’s territory since ancient times, both on historic and legal basis. He also noted that resolving the Taiwan question and realizing China's complete reunification is a historic mission of the Communist Party of China and a shared aspiration of all the sons and daughters of the Chinese nation. Seeking independence with U.S. support will go nowhere, and using the Taiwan question to contain China is doomed to fail.

Ms. Reita Toussaint said that Trinidad and Tobago has always been firmly adhering to the one-China principle, and attaches high importance to developing its relations with China. Trinidad and Tobago is willing to join hands with the Chinese side to promote greater development of the Trinidad and Tobago-China relations.
