On the occasion of International Children’s Day celebrated on June 1, Chinese Ambassador Fang Qiu extended warm greetings via video message and donated much needed daily necessities to the Lady Hochoy Home in Cocorite, in support of the latter’s noble cause of the children rearing.

In his video message, Ambassador Fang, on behalf of the Chinese Embassy, extended warmest greetings and best wishes to all the children at Lady Hochoy Home. He also expressed his appreciation to Sister Dean and her team of staff for their love and care for the children.

Ambassador Fang highlighted, “In China, children are often likened to flowers and they carry the hopes for the bright future of the nation. As Chinese President Xi Jinping puts it, the country is strong and progressive when young people are strong and progressive. It is the common responsibility of the whole society to create favorable conditions for the healthy growth of children and create a favorable environment for the development of young people.”

Ambassador Fang recalled China’s First Lady Professor Peng Liyuan’s visit to the Home in 2013, saying the visit has always been a motivation for him to contribute to the children’s cause in Trinidad and Tobago.

Ambassador Fang also remarked, “In the high spirit of friendship and partnership, China and Trinidad and Tobago are now working closely to implement the Global Development Initiative, which was proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping last year..., we will spare no efforts to create a brighter future for our two peoples, especially for our younger generations, and make sure that no one is left behind.”

Sr. Bertill Dean, superintendent of Lady Hochoy Home thanked Ambassador Fang and the Chinese Embassy, as she expressed her gratitude for the consistent support received from the Chinese Embassy. “We always remember several years ago when Madame Peng Liyuan, China’s First Lady visited us. Her visit was a highlight of the Home. That was a memorable day and we always remember it and since then the Chinese Embassy is very good to us,” said Sr. Dean.
